CaringKids celebrates Young Carers this National Carers Week
CaringKids is excited to be celebrating National Carers Week from 13 – 19 October 2024.
National Carers Week is a time to recognise, celebrate and raise awareness about the 3 million Australians who provide care to a family member or friend.
CaringKids is on a mission to reconnect young carers to the joy and wonders of childhood via a box of toys called a Joy Box. Every child deserves to enjoy the fun and carefree moments of childhood. CaringKids is proud knowing that each and every day, we can bring a little joy to the lives of young carers.
National Carers Week is a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the over 391,300 young carers in Australia caring for a disabled or chronically ill family member. They often spend more than 6 hours a week caring for others.
As well as taking on caring responsibilities, young carers often have to cope with social isolation and financial hardship that goes hand in hand with caring for a family member.
Since 2014, CaringKids has donated over 60,000 toys to young carers.
We’re on a mission to create more Joy Boxes and send more toys to young carers across Australia. National Carers Week is a great time to get involved with CaringKids and bring more joy to young carers.
Donate NOW to provide games, puzzles, toys, books or school supplies to help put a smile on a child’s face.
Who are young carers?
Young carers are a person up to the age of 25 years old. They provide unpaid care and support to family member/s, or friends with
- a disability
- physical or mental illness
- a substance dependency or who is aged.
Young carers are often unseen in the role of carers. They see what they do for the person they care for as part of their normal role. They see it as helping out whilst some provide the majority of care.
