
Lions District N2 Convention at the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra
The Lions District N2 Convention took place at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, on the 7-9th of November, bringing together Lions and Leos from throughout the district, from Liverpool in Sydney’s Southwest all the way to Canberra. District Governor David McKenna led inspiring sessions focused on service, leadership, and community impact.
Margaret Skagias, Founder of CaringKids and a Lions member since 2020, shared insights on the Lions CaringKids Project. This initiative supports children who care for siblings and parents, backed by numerous clubs within the district that sponsor Joy Boxes for children.
Panel Discussion: Collaboration and Impact
A dedicated panel explored the value of partnership and resource-sharing across Lions projects and foundations. The discussion, facilitated by Amanda Cordell (District V5, Cabinet Officer), featured speakers:
- Ron Skeen OAM – Chair, Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation
- Danny Richardson – Registrar, Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation
- Margaret Skagias – Chairperson, Lions CaringKids Project
- Jenny Barclay – N2 Zone Chairperson and leader of the Lions LEAP eyesight screening program for early vision detection in children
- David Evans – Chair, Lions Nurses Scholarship Foundation
The panel highlighted strategies for increasing program impact through engagement, connection-building, and collaborative service.
Convention Dinner and Fundraising
The convention dinner held within the National Portrait Gallery. Attendees celebrated community achievements and helped raise vital funds for the Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation.
