Six Hundred Donations
That’s the number of individual donations made by Lions Clubs across Australia to the Lions CaringKids Project totalling an incredible $280,000 in contributions since 2023.
Some clubs have donated not once or twice, but up to six times, demonstrating an extraordinary and sustained commitment to recognising and supporting young carers across the country.
Behind every one of those donations is a story of community action
CaringKids Committee members have travelled to Lions Conventions across Australia to share their story, and Lions and Leos listened. They went back to their clubs, spoke to their Presidents, raised it at meetings, and made it happen. The funds themselves have been raised through community barbecues, trivia nights, wine auctions, cake sales, meat raffles and countless other initiatives, a testament to the tireless effort Lions members pour into their communities every single day.
To date, more than 3,000 young carers have received their very own Joy Box — a tangible recognition of the endless care and love they provide to a family member living with a disability or illness.
Now, the CaringKids Project is asking Lions Clubs for their continued support. In May, the CaringKids team will be at the Lions MD National Convention in Adelaide; where we will seek a vote to continue this national Lions project for another three-year term. The support of Lions Australia will help build the solid foundations needed for CaringKids to grow and sustain its vital work into the future.
If you’re heading to Adelaide, please stop by the CaringKids booth, the team would love to connect with your club.
There is more work to do, and together, we can keep making a difference for young carers in Australia.
