Lions Partners Pack Joy for Young Carers
While Lions District Governors and District Governor Elects were immersed in leadership training this January, their partners rolled up their sleeves for a different kind of important work, one that would bring smiles to children across Australia.
The CaringKids toy workshop buzzed with energy as Lions partners (many of them Lions members themselves) spent the day sorting, selecting, and packing Joy Boxes destined for young carers. These kids have taken on the responsibility of caring for family members with disabilities or chronic illnesses, often missing out on their own childhood.
With over 300,000 young carers in Australia, there is a great need to recognise and support young carers. These children frequently miss out on the simple pleasures of being a child, playtime, carefree moments, and the reminder that they matter too.
That’s exactly what makes each Joy Box so special. Filled with carefully chosen toys and games, these boxes deliver more than entertainment; they carry a powerful message: “You are seen. You are valued. You deserve joy.”
The dedication of the Lions partners shone through as they worked together, knowing that each box they packed would land in the hands of a child who needed it most. It’s this kind of hands-on compassion that exemplifies the Lions spirit.
CaringKids will be attending the Lions Multiple District 201 Australia Convention 2026 (Adelaide) in May 22–25, 2026.at the Adelaide Showground, Adelaide, South Australia.
We will be seeking the support of all members to continue our Category B Lions CaringKids project for another term of 3 years. This would assist CaringKids to develop our systems and service further, and to build solid foundations and sustainability for the future. We hope to see our Lions friends there and to have their vote!
