
Jan has worked in the health and community sector for over 40 years. She was responsible for setting up the first national telephone helpline for carers in the UK in 1989 and it was then that she became aware of children and young people who were providing care for a family member.
She was the Director of Services for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain for 8 years and when she immigrated to Australia in 2001 she worked as a consultant for Executive Directions. She was the Acting CEO of LifeCircle for 2 years, an organisation that provided emotional support for families and friends caring for a person with a terminal illness. She worked as a volunteer telephone support group leader at Cancer Council NSW for 8 years and as a counsellor for people with cancer. She now works in private practice as a counsellor and psychotherapist.
Jan holds an MA in Social and Public Policy, a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and an Advanced Certificate in Gestalt Therapy. She also has an Advanced Diploma in Interior Design.
